WELL HELLO THERE 2018 (i’ve been waiting for you)

Happy Monday + Happy flippin’ 2018!

I still can’t hardly believe the start of a new year has come and gone so quickly.  How is it January 15th already?  Goodness gracious.

Towards the end of 2017, I was lucky enough to have few sweet friends of mine (all whom are INCREDIBLE local makers) introduced me to Powersheets by Lara Casey.  Casey’s intentional goal setting planner ‘Cultivate What Matters’ walks you through how to be more aware of what matters most in your life, areas where you have room to grow (because lets be honest, who doesn’t have any need for growth?), but also celebrates your inner strengths and outward successes.

After what seemed like a million hours of soul-searching, brainstorming, and most likely over thinking, I finally managed to narrow down my most important goals for both myself, and my small creative business for 2018.  Today, I am sharing my top three.

Are ya ready?  I sure am.

Goal number 1: Spend less time worrying about social media.

Often (and without even really realizing it), I so easily get sucked into my various social media accounts (both business and personal) for what I’m sure becomes hours at a time.  Social media has become such a roadblock in me and my husbands’ productivity and overall happiness, and I can’t imagine the rest of the world being affected in a different way.  So in 2018, I am going to take the time on my Sunday afternoons each week to PLAN AHEAD and actually SCHEDULE my instagram/facebook/blog/whatever posts.  We’re planning on having occasional tech-free Tuesdays and weekends where we completely check out from our phones altogether!  I’m going to start living a life where I don’t feel like I’m always chained to my devices.  And I’m pretty darn excited about it.

Goal number 2:  Live with less.

Since moving into our first little home in the late summer of 2016, my husband and I were kept pretty busy planning our wedding, navigating our crazy ever-changing work schedules, and then I went and decided to add even more chaos to the mix by starting my own creative business.  Needless to say, organizing our home the way we really wanted was totally put on the back burner.  Now that we’re more settled in our little nest, it’s time for us to FINALLY put in some much needed time into our home.  We plan to donate to goodwill at least once a month, create an organized and functional office space, and get our basement to a place that doesn’t make us want to have a meltdown whenever we go downstairs.  This is definitely going to require lots of patience.  Stay tuned.

Goal number 3: Be more willing to step outside of my comfort zone.

And by ‘step out outside of my comfort zone’, I mean more like ‘take the leap and jump out of my comfort zone’.  I’m ready to make this year mine for the taking and don’t want to waste any more of my valuable time worrying about not being good/smart/pretty/wealthy/successful enough.  I want to meet new people, both in and outside of the creative industry.  I want to be able to ask for help or advice when I really need it.  I want to take more risks as a business owner.  I want to learn something new and exciting.  Maybe teach myself a new craft?  I’ve spent too many of my 25 years on this earth of worrying about the ‘what if’s’ and not enough of them pursuing my dreams and pushing my boundaries.  It’s happening, just you wait and see.

2018 is full of so much promise + opportunity.  I can’t wait to see what is yet to come from both myself, and all of you.  All I know is that this year, more than ever, I’m going to live a life I’m really, truly proud of.
